Another High-End 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth Coming from Memory Lane (Many Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle)

Memory Lane Inc. set a record for a 1933 Goudey this summer with the sale of 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth (#53) fetching $4.2 million at auction. While that card was graded PSA 9 ((MINT) from the Dr. Thomas Newman Collection, the coming Fall 2021 auction is featuring another high-end 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth coming from Memory Lane. This new example is graded by SGC as 8.5 (NM/MT+).

By the look and appearance of this card, this is one of the finest 1933 Goudey cards we have seen come to auction outside of that $4.2 million sale in the summer of 2021. The starting bid is set for $200,000 and it will obviously sell for multiples higher than that price.

We couldn’t help but notice that the online catalog for this major auction mentioned the term “investing” or “investment” more than 15 times. As for the Ruth feature, the catalog said:

Clearly, the premier and rarest sports cards are now viewed as not only collectables, but as bona fide investment commodities, with hobbyists yearnings to capture the next remarkable cardboard keepsake.

Also, there is a reason we have said that Babe Ruth collectors owe all of their card thanks to the 1933 Goudey set. Without this set, our view is that Babe Ruth cards would be unattainable.
