Even the Sport of Cricket Is Getting Its Own NFT Platform

The digital asset segment for non-fungible tokens still has a lot to prove versus the physical world of collectibles. Some collectors still love NFTs, and many still refuse to accept them. There is an old saying that applies here: “That’s what makes a market!” Now the sport of cricket is getting its own NFT platform for international cricket fans.

A press release has been issued showing that Rario is launching the first Cricket based fan-focused digital collectibles platform. The target date is August 15, 2021. It will allow the platform users to own digital collectibles around the world of cricket.

U.S. collectors and the investors who buy collectibles for profit may still completely write cricket off when it comes to sports. What is interesting, even at the 2021 National Sports Collectors Convention, is that collectors were routinely asking dealers for non-traditional sports cards. Cricket probably was at the bottom of (or non-existent on) the list. Still, it’s fairly new to hear about the interest in sports like soccer, wrestling and Formula One sports cards among U.S. collectors.

Rario is a Singapore-based technology company and the platform is said to sell verifiable and genuine art from the world of cricket. According to Rario’s press release, that could be sold in the shape of an image, video or audio as fans are hungry for their so-called moments.

On top of the digital collectibles offerings, Rario will also create multiple engagement avenues via games and a trading marketplace. Rario has also noted that it is already an officially licensed partner of Lanka Premier League and Caribbean Premier League. It is also said to be in advanced negotiations with multiple leagues and cricket boards.

These will not be household names to 99% of Americans, but this is a list o some cricket stars who are shown to already signed up with Rario:

  • Zaheer Khan;
  • Smriti Mandhana;
  • Shefali Verma;
  • Shakib Al Hassan;
  • Faff du Plessis;
  • and Dwayne Bravo.

It seems unlikely that American sports collectors and the wave of sports collectible investors are going to be all over this offering. That said, cricket is an international sport covering many nations outside of the United States. That also means it has a large international market. A further note about Rario’s NFT market place was shown in the release:

It is an inclusive platform allowing for young fans as well as professionals and entrepreneurs to experience a unique form of micro sporting assets and engage as a community…

Rario brings forward a unique infusion of cricket and modern technology that will deeply influence the way that fans connect with the game.
